I like them because you can cover up your mistakes by either killing enemies before the general alarm is sounded, run away and hide (although some games have the enemies on a higher alert afterward, making them more difficult to avoid), or even just outright engage in open combat and kill everyone (Wolfenstein has fantastic transitions from stealth to run and gun). I DO however enjoy several games where stealth is an option, such as Dishonored, Wolfenstein:TNO & Old Blood, MGSV: Phantom Pain, Shadow of Mordor, Tomb Raider reboot, and the Sniper Elite series. I don't really like stealth games, as a general rule. Not saying it's an awful game but it is an awful traditional stealth game. Make sure you can save at any time, checkpoint saves in a stealth game are stupid!Īnd don't do anything that Hitman Absolution did, that game is a walking and avoidance simulator. No body likes doing the same thing over and over again. Changing the reactions of the same guard over time so they aren't easily fooled multiple times makes for a good challenge. if it was me, I'd go run off and find someone else to take with me, I wouldn't just go investigate a noise if I was on guard. You always see enemies happy to go investigate a noise. You should be able to hide behind doors, curtains and under beds or whatever other more natural places are in the environments.Įnemy reactions. Placing a bunch of cupboards around a level to hide in is old hat. Hiding as never been that creative, Commandos 1 had the Green Beret ability to dig into the snow and hide but I never found it to be that handy. Thief would probably be my favourite with it's use of light/shadows. Visiblity/Hiding: Some games make no use of visibility mechanics or do it poorly. I like how the demo video showed moving the boxes, keep up with good ideas like that :) You should be able to distract enemies in numerous ways, not just throwing a rock. First person single character games tend to rely on a limited toolset. If you're not stunning and dragging bodies away, what are you doing?Ībility to distract enemies and hide can get boring if there is no variety. ![]() Take a look at Commandos 2 as probably the most perfect stealth/puzzle game. I think the best stealth games are really just puzzle games with enemies being obsticles. ![]()
